Vernon Hoven is a practicing Certified Public Accountant with a Master's Degree in Taxation from the University of Denver's School of Law. Vern practiced in the public, governmental, and corporate accounting fields before starting his own public accounting practice in 1973, a firm that grew to one of the largest in Western Montana. In 1985, he started his present tax consulting practice. CPA Magazine recognized Vern as one of the top 50 IRS representation practitioners in 2008.

Vern is also a nationally recognized tax lecturer. He regularly speaks 100+ days a year for CPAs, lawyers and Realtors throughout the United States. He has been an AICPA national instructor, and the Illinois, Indiana, and Nebraska CPA Societies have all honored him with their "Tax Instructor of the Year" award. In 1993, Vern's presentation skills earned him the coveted Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) from his fellow speaking professionals of the National Speakers Association, which has granted only 400 CSPs out of 3,600 NSA members as of 2006.

He co-authored two Prentice Hall books and has written articles on taxation for numerous national publications. The fifth edition of his highly-acclaimed book, The Real Estate Investor's Tax Guide, published by Dearborn Financial Publishing, was released in bookstores in September 2008. The Chicago Tribune stated, "on a scale of one to 10, it rates an off-the-shelf 12," and the San Francisco Examiner called the book, "by far the best explanation of how the Tax Act affects homeowners and realty investors."

Vern has sat on many national boards, including the National Association of Realtors' Legislative Committee and Federal Tax Sub-Committee, the Farm and Land Institute's Education Committee and Federal Tax Committee, and served for two years as National Secretary and three years as National Director-at-Large for the National Real Estate Educator's Association. He also has been active in his community, even serving as a publicly elected School Board Trustee for five years.
